Building a Community of Love
People of God come together in the Church to worship the Lord. The Apostle Paul described true worship perfectly in Romans 12:1-2 “I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable, or well pleasing and perfect.” This is what we should teach our kids. We bring them to church and to the faith formation program to deepen this faith. Any hypocrisy on the part of the parents will have negative repercussions on the formation of our children.
Last Sunday (April 18, 2010) Rev. Fr. Vinod graciously explained the unfortunate situation at St. Alphonsa. The Liturgy he celebrated, elevated us to a real God experience. The Homily he preached was spiritually motivating. His explanations regarding the current situations, future plans, role of the diocese as well as the faithful in building up this community of faith and love were reasonable and encouraging. He highlighted the role of the hierarchy in enforcing the laws of the Church and the obligation of the faithful to abide by it. The absence of announcement after the Qurbana was well appreciated. The year passed was loaded with insinuating information or announcements which no way helped building up a community of faith and love. Father Vinod’s remark that “this is a place for worship and not a place for meeting and arguments” was highly rewarding. His pleasing behavior and meaningful communication both in English and Malayalam was very much appreciated by the youth. .
It was unfortunate that in spite of Fr. Vinod’s good intention and noble behavior he was intimidated by a few ill-informed parishioners. The situation was scary to some kids and women in our church. The misbehavior of a CCD teacher was patiently handled by Fr. Vinod. His patience in controlling the situation and giving reasonable answers were good guide lines for our community. It is a model for other priests. Emotionally charged questioning and manhandling of fellow parishioners are not a healthy behavior in a community of faith. We need to pray for the unity of our community.
Let us pay heed to the following words of St. Paul: “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.” (Timothy 3:1-5)
“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves” (Rom. 13:1-2).

Nice article... and truly said bravo!!!
ReplyDeletejitcho is the CCD teacher who have misbehaved with Vinod Achen and we do not want a CCD teacher like him for our children. Even when Bishop came, he said that Bishop is devil. Do you want someone like him to teach faith formation for your kids.
We have to put a stop to the attrocities of few people in the Church. We should not allow them to disgrace our priests.
Last week we had a peaceful mass without any big meetings or announcements nor anyone got disgraced in the alter.
Dear Syro Malabarian’s
ReplyDeletecan we stop hatred and live like one family in love and harmony. We may have differences in opinion, but this is not the stage to voice our hatred for each other. Are we not mature enough? We are all human beings.
If you are true believer in Jesus and believe that Jesus died for our sins follow the path Jesus has shown to us. It is only love. Let us always remember the 10 commandments that Jesus taught us.
As Jesus said, "If there is one of you who has not sinned, let him be the first to throw a stone at a sinner." John. 8.7
We are all sinners and we do not have any right to judge others.
Also Jesus said, "love one another; just as I have loved you, you also must love one another. By this love you have for one another, everyone will know that you are my disciples." Jn. 13.34-35
As Jesus Said let us all Love one other and get rid of our hatred.
Jesus said, "Anybody who receives my commandments and keeps them will be one who loves me;" Jn. 14.21
Let us all love our Lord Jesus Christ and follow his teachings.
TEN COMMANDMENTS:
1. You shall have no other gods before me.
2. You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
5. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
Please remember one thing..
when one the disciples asked Jesus "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments" (Matthew 22:36-40).
I do not know.. how many of the so called coppel community members (210) has contributed there 7% or 8% of their income to the church. There are people who come out with leaflets, Garao Bishop and Achen, who have not contributed the 7-8%. Also many of them have not even given their pledges for 2009.
ReplyDeleteOh!! i forgot, there is a parish committee member who has taken back his $ 5000.00 check given for building fund and Achen supported it. This guy also informed that " Achen paranju, nee $ 5000.00nte check thannu ennu paranju, wardil ullavurude kayil ninne cash vaangam. Pinne palli medichu kazinju, aa check therike tharam enne.
